Scary Pumpkin Stencils

Frightful Scary Pumpkin Stencils For Halloween!

Pumpkin lanterns were originally created and lit to frighten off and deter evil spirits and stray, unsettled ghosts that were believed to be most actively roaming during and around the time of Halloween.

Only in later years as people lost their fears or perhaps their superstitions faded, pumpkin lanterns took on more creative forms for decorative purposes to celebrate a fun holiday, Halloween. Today, pumpkins are carved to result in cute, funny, sweet, artsy and even emulating known personalities.

However, there are still those who take pride in carving scary pumpkins although I highly doubt that these are intended to scar the same evil spirits and stray, unsettled ghosts of yesteryear. Are you one of those people who would like to try your hand at carving a scary pumpkin for this year’s Halloween but you are not artistically inclined? No problem. Just get yourself a scary pumpkin stencil that will lead and guide you through the entire process. But first you must decide what you would consider scary and then choose the stencil that will most closely coordinate with your definition.

My personal choice of a scary pumpkin for this year’s Halloween is a fearsome mummy whose staring black piercing eyes will make you shiver with dread. But allow me to reveal a little secret here. In spite of its outward appearance, this mummy is really very friendly. But don’t tell anyone else before they’ve been scared properly.

I would also like your permission to reveal how to create your own mummy pumpkin either for yourself or someone else who might be interested. May I go ahead? Thank you!

To create a mummy pumpkin you will need the following items:

- A smooth white pumpkin or a smooth pumpkin that you will coat with white pain.
- A marking pen.
- A paring knife.
- A saw.
- A large spoon or a sturdy ice cream scoop.
- Two flat toothpicks.
- Two shiny black marbles.
- A strong glass adhesive or crazy glue.
- A large candle.

The following are instruction for creating a mummy pumpkin:

1. Draw a straight line around the top of the pumpkin and saw off along what you have marked. Do not discard the top because it will serve as the pumpkin’s lid.
2. Use the large spoon or the ice cream scoop to clean out the pumpkin’s inside as well as its lid.
3. Draw two eyes that will be wide enough and tall enough to snuggly accommodate the marbles that you have chosen. You can draw the eyes as slanted ovals or rounded, close together or far apart. Use your imagination. Carve out what you have drawn.
4. Draw a nose. This can be a mere triangle or any shape nose your heart desires. Carve along what you have drawn.
5. Draw a mouth. Make it rounded, curving up, curving down or jagged with the appearance of teeth. You decide and proceed to carve.
6. Add more carved horizontal slits all around your pumpkin’s gourd and a few in the lid that you cut out in your first step.
7. Decide where you want the black marble eyeballs to be in the eye slits and mark them with vertically placed toothpicks. Remember, you want to make this mummy scary so you might want the eyes to be crossed or unevenly placed.
8. Glue the marbles to the inserted toothpicks and let dry for a while.
9. Place the candle inside your beautifully carved pumpkin.
10. Light the candle and …. It’s so scary I can hardly complete this article.

Happy scary Halloween!
