Who would have thought and furthermore who would have believed that an age-old Halloween tradition of pumpkin carving and Jack O’ Lanterns would become so technologically advanced that it would require computer software? I must admit that I would have qualified to be at the top of any list of skeptics on this matter. But cynics like me must step aside and take our hats off to Carving Technologies L.L.C.

Carving Technologies is a computer software development company which specializes in the most recent and up-to-date technology in creating stencils for professional artists, crafts people as well as once-a-year carvers of Halloween pumpkins for Jack O’ Lanterns. Being a relatively new company, Carving Technologies is currently marketing three products:

1. “Coyote Stencil Shop” is a comprehensive software system developed and designed for those professionals and amateurs who scroll saw, burn wood, paint on glass and decorate homes.

2. “Coyote’s Den” is useful and an intuitively user-friendly software for organizing and storing images and stencils in an easy to retrieve database.

3. “Me On A Pumpkin” was Carving Technologies’ first product that was developed and marketed in 1999. Me On a Pumpkin has since become the number one choice for those who love to carve unique pumpkins but prefer that their projects to be easier and quicker while producing amazingly professional results.

I have mentioned “Coyote Stencil Shop” and “Coyote’s Den” but I would like us to focus our attention on “Me On A Pumpkin,” if you do not mind. “Me On A Pumpkin” will allow you to take any photograph or digital image and turn it into a pumpkin carving stencil that will guide you through the process of carving pumpkins that will astound anyone who views them. And when I say any photograph or digital image, I mean just that. With “Me On A Pumpkin” you can create pumpkin stencils from portraits of individuals or a group of individuals, of your pet or several of your pets, of simple nature scenes and even of entire landscapes. There is literally no photograph or digital image that you will not be able to easily turn into a printable pumpkin carving stencil in mere minutes. You should, however, remember that the more intricate the photograph or the image, the more intricate the resulting stencil will be. And the more intricate stencils require a higher skill of pumpkin carving which will also consume more time. “Me On A Pumpkin” will allow you to adjust the amount of detail on the resulting stencil to accommodate your skill level. Keep in mind, however, that by reducing details you will also reduce the likeness between the original photograph or image and the resulting stencil. You will also be able to customize the photograph or image by adding a tail or horns or donkey ears, for example.

It is exciting and fun but before you proceed, please remember that you will be dealing with a software package that, like any other software package, has certain environmental requirements for working properly.

1. Your computer must be up to date with Microsoft; otherwise you will need to update it. It is a good idea to do that periodically anyway.

2. To minimize the download time, the “Me On A Pumpkin” software comes compressed and you will need to decompress it with WinZip before installation. WinZip is a software program that can be easily acquire on the Internet.

3. “Me On A Pumpkin” requires about six megs of storage space. Be sure your computer can accommodate that.

4. You must be sure that your firewalls and spam filters allow emails from www.carvingtechnologies.com.

“Me On A Pumpkin” is worth the investment because it will serve you with loyalty one Halloween after another.
