Cat Pumkin Carving Patterns For Halloween

Silly Or Scary Fun Cat Pumkin Carving Patterns This Halloween

Cats are mysterious, aloof, independent and nocturnal creatures that possess awe-inspiring and magical agility. Furthermore, cats leap to enviable heights in ghostly silence displaying an elitist attitude and an air of ownership. It is no wonder that superstitions sprouted all about them, especially the black ones.

Black cats, of any breed, have been systematically linked on the one hand with witchcraft and evil and with good omens on the other hand. Black cats, therefore, were alternately feared and worshiped. For centuries, black cats were considered good luck in many parts of the world. However, as of the seventeenth century and the onset of witch hunting in the United States and is some part of Europe, black cats were directly associated with witches and witchcraft and were feared for the bad luck and misfortune they may bring on. Places that did not see witch hunting continued to view black cats as signs of good fortune, healing, protection and prosperity. In a nutshell, superstitions centering on the black cat are some of the most widely known and popular in just about any culture and many of them have survived the passing of time to this very day.

It is not a coincidence, in that case, that cats have been commonly used for Halloween decorations and in pumpkin carvings. And where you find pumpkin carving categorized, the cat pumpkin carving patterns are more often than not placed in with the scary and the spooky.
So, how do you go about creating your very own spooky cat Jack O’ Lantern? That is easy and you can make your own cat pumpkin carving pattern, as well:

1. Find the cat clipart that you like and copy it into a blank Microsoft Word document.
2. Enlarge the clipart you selected by dragging its corners toward the right margin or the left margin of your Microsoft Word document.
3. Print it out in black and white and study the outcome.
4. Using a red marker, mark off all the background areas that are to be carved out while leaving your cat’s form in tact.
5. If there are any parts of the original clipart that you do not want to retain as part of your carving, mark them in red as well.
6. Cut around the entire printout, including the reddened background, leaving approximately a half an inch all around.
7. Cut off the pumpkin’s top and clean out its insides.
8. Tape the cat pumpkin carving pattern that you have just created onto the surface of your pumpkin.
9. Mark the sections you will be carving out with a nail or a pick.
10. Remove the pattern but keep it close at hand for reference while you are carving.
11. Begin your careful carving and remember to carve out only the reddened sections.
12. You can texture the cat’s fur by scratching the surface of the pumpkin.
13. You can also add whiskers and eyelashes by attaching a few pieces of thin wire.
14. You can create a nose by attaching a small black button or simply draw it on with a black marker.
15. A bowtie around the neck could be a nice added detail.
16. Place a candle or a light bulb inside your carved cat Jack O’ Lantern, replace the top of the pumpkin that you removed at the beginning of your project and light it up.

Applaud yourself for the fine job you did!
